Theatre photography that drives sales
Theatre would not function without ‘bums on seats’, they provide the revenue to finance the productions and provide the adrenalin to bring the best out of the performers.
Selling a show is not easy, if it was there’d be no need to sell at all. This is where social media comes into its own. Almost everyone has a social media presence, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc., and this is where professional theatre photography can make a real difference to ticket sales.
I’ll work with your company to create evocative images that reflect the performers, the characters they portray and the spirit of the production.
This is done in three ways:
- I’ll come to a floor rehearsal about four weeks before the opening night, or when rehearsals are well underway, using a long lens where possible to capture expressions, laughter, action, individuals and groups – in fact just about anything that moves – in an unobtrusive manner so as not to distract the performers.
- A formal ‘costume’ shoot using portable studio equipment.
- I’ll attend the dress rehearsal capturing every nuance of the performance. This provides an invaluable souvenir for the Company and images for future use.
The rehearsal and costume shots are ideal for a programme of social media posts by your Company and cast to their thousands of social media contacts. It’s tried, tested and it works. An increase in sales of just 30 tickets or so will cover your investment!
Simon has always delivered great photography, great close ups, great angles and spots the moments that will capture a great shot. Would recommend for any shoot.
I've worked with Simon on three shows and am constantly blown away by his photos. He has such a knack of capturing the emotions of any scene, and he is such a professional that frequently the cast don't actually notice they're having pictures taken!
